Whenever we apply eggs on the hair, it is important to remember to rinse it with lukewarm or cold to prevent it from solidifying, in which case it will be more difficult to remove it.
The egg is a super food for natural care. Its nutritional values make it an important part of a balanced, adequate and healthy diet.
In addition, its high nutrient content also allows us to use it externally for the natural care of our hair.
Find out in this article how you can use eggs to improve the health of your hair.
Why are eggs important for?
Eggs are a healthy, whole, and balanced food that you can eat regularly to get a good amount of protein and healthy fats.
It has the benefits of animal protein, but is healthier and more digestible.
The egg is also an essential ingredient in many of our homemade natural treatments. You can use it on the skin, hair and nails to provide nutrients and fight certain disorders.
In addition, it contains essential amino acids that our body does not manufacture and, therefore, that we can only supply to our body through food.
Nutritional values
The egg contains the following nutrients:
- Proteins
- Fatty acids
- Essential amino acids
- Vitamins (A, group B, D, E)
- Minerals (phosphorus, iron, zinc, selenium)
Why is the egg good for your hair?
The nutrients below are very beneficial for the natural care of your hair. Either when you eat them or by applying them to your hair:
- Proteins: they ensure a good hair structure so that the hair is strong and voluminous.
- Amino acids: They are helpful to promote good hair growth.
- Fatty Acids: Nourish hair from root to tip to combat dry, frizzy hair and split ends.
- Folic acid and iron: Both prevent hair loss.
- Zinc: It is necessary for strong hair.
- Biotin (Vitamin B7): This is one of the best vitamins for hair health.
By using the egg as a hair product instead of other conventional products, you also avoid certain components such as silicones, parabens or sulfates.
These give you noticeable hydration in the moment. However, in the long term, they dry out, irritate or weaken your hair, in addition to being harmful to your health.

How to use eggs on hair?
Egg yolk is very beneficial for dry and damaged hair with a tendency to split ends. When applied frequently, it provides hydration, shine, softens and prevents frizz.
You can benefit from it in three different ways:
- If you usually use conventional shampoo and your hair is very dry, you can use egg yolk every day.
Just mix the shampoo you usually use with egg yolk. This way you get a very cleansing, foamy but much more nutritious shampoo.
- Egg yolk can be a great conditioner for dry hair , as it leaves hair soft and hydrated.
However, so that there are no egg residues or odors, we recommend that you use it before shampooing. You will achieve an ideal effect and the hair will be clean as after each wash.
- As a more intensive treatment, you can prepare a nourishing mask with egg yolk combined with vegetable oil (coconut, almond, jojoba, olive, argan).
Apply it all over the hair and leave it on for at least half an hour.
Natural care for oily hair
In the case of oily hair, it is better to use egg white, as it is rich in enzymes, B vitamins and selenium, among other nutrients.
Egg white has a great power of regulating sebum production in the scalp. It can also be beneficial for dandruff treatment and giving volume to hair that is too straight.
To use egg white, we recommend beating it a little before applying it. It should be applied before washing the hair. Leave on for 20 minutes.
To wash your hair after using egg white, always use lukewarm or cold water. If you use hot water, the egg white will become solid and tangle in your hair.

How to make an egg mask at your home?
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons of honey
Mix everything and apply it on dry hair. Massage your scalp. Cover your hair with a swimming cap. Leave the mask on for as long as possible (all night is better). Wash in lukewarm water without using shampoo.
I do not recommend this recipe if your hair is particularly oily. If your hair isn’t usually greasy, but it is after the treatment, use a mild shampoo after rinsing. I recommend that you do this mask once a month.
I offer you a second recipe which this time aims to hydrate your dry hair.
- 1 or 2 egg yolks depending on the length of your hair
- 3 tablespoons of olive oil
- 3 tablespoons of honey
- 1 plain yogurt
Mix egg yolks, olive oil and honey. Add enough yogurt to give the mixture a creamy consistency, not too runny. Leave the mask on for an hour and a half and rinse with cold water. Repeat the operation once a month to always have hydrated hair.
5 reasons to use an egg mask
A natural moisturizer
Thanks to the lecithin, zinc, phosphorus, vitamins (A, D B12, B8 and B9) and selenium that eggs contain, egg masks are the perfect treatment for damaged hair.
But they can also help to give back some pep to your hair, which sometimes looks “thirsty”.
Egg mask for oily hair
In a match between them, the egg mask knocks the oily scalpel down. Egg white has an interesting property: that of degreasing the hair. But we definitely don’t want to go from oily scalp to dry, brittle hair. There are masks made from egg white, but I don’t recommend them.
I offer you a very simple recipe instead: mix 1 whole egg, an egg white and a few drops of lemon; apply the mask to damp hair; leave to act for one hour; rinse with cold water.
A simple, effective recipe, based on 100% natural ingredients and which does not cost much. In addition, once your hair is less oily, it regains volume.
Slows down hair loss
I would be hard pressed to show you the results of a scientific study proving that eggs help hair grow 5 to 10 centimeters in three months or reduce hair loss by 25%.
But since eggs contain a lot of protein and hair is made up of protein, it’s reasonable to assume that this grandmother’s recipe can’t harm our hair.
I’m not going to sell you the miraculous recipe for baldness, but it’s worth trying this mask based on eggs and castor oil. Just mix two eggs and a few drops of castor oil. Leave on for an hour. Rinse with lukewarm water.
Slow down cutting your hair and repair split ends
By regularly applying an egg mask, you can delay going to the hairdresser to remove your split ends.
For this mask also the recipe is quite simple.
- 1 egg yolk
- Half a glass of milk
- A few drops of lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of honey
Mix all the ingredients and apply on dry hair, insisting on the ends. Leave the mask on for about thirty minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water. You can do this mask twice a week until you get the desired result.
As you have seen, egg masks are very easy to make and have many benefits. The most important point to remember is that you should always rinse your hair with cold or lukewarm water to avoid ending up with scrambled eggs on your head.
For normal hair
Normal hair can also benefit greatly from the nutrients in both white and yellow. Because they are both well balanced to provide what the hair needs.
- Just beat an egg, apply it all over the hair and leave it on for at least 20 minutes.
- You can do this mask once a week.
This way you will have radiant hair and you will prevent it from falling out.
